Does anyone have personal experience or informed comment about this race? My daughter is running it this weekend . It is a serious international level field of competitors and she is an enthusiastic amature trail runner but with very limited wilderness and mountain environment experience. It is well north of the Arctic circle and my concerns are not her fitness but experience to make good judgements etc regarding adverse weather and route finding.
Also welcome comment on the race organisation, safety and marshalling support.

Thanks

In reply to Arcturus: One of my workmates is competing. The weather forecast looks rather good and cetainly not 'arctic'.
Race organisation and support will be excellent. I do not think you need worry

I saw the video with them all running around whooping and high-fiveing lots and thought it was the Hamperokken ridge they were on. Its a scramble up, not too hard but airy North Ridge (F). The descent was a knee wrecker on big horrible scree - broke a ski pole! In the video they seemed to be running on big snow patches which would have been much better than how it was when I was there.

Sky races are well flagged. Its organised or at least part organised by Emelie as I understand as she was from that way. Despite the terrain these races are incredibly safe and accidents are surprisingly rare. I dont know the course but in europe the use of ropes and chains on steeper terrain is pretty common.

All the higher altitude races I have done have been packed by marshalls, especially in the more dangerous sections.

The promotional video was a bit odd and hyped I thought. Showed the nice terrain but noone will be running the sorts of paces they were running.

In a sky race there should be NO route finding. Here's the rules:

COURSE MARKING
The organizers must guarantee basic signage (flags or other signage,
preferably fluorescent) for the safety of the competitors. It should be made of biodegradable material and
removed immediately after the closure of the competition.

SAFETY
The organisers will guarantee, with specialised professional staff, the safety of all
persons connected with the competition: competitors, public, course marshals, checkpoint and aid station
staff etc. with the eventual collaboration of police, mountain guides, medical services, ambulance service,
rescue and emergency services. A rescue and safety plan must be provided.
5.4.1
Special attention should be paid to areas which might present a risk for competitors’ safety: water,
snow and ice, road crossings, steep inclines, exposed crests etc.. These points should be reinforced with
extra personnel, information panels, etc. In some cases ropes or chains may be necessary to aid
competitors.

Thanks for your helpful comments folks.

Race day tomorrow. Weather forecast rather wet and cloudy at present.
45km and 4500m climb in under 12 hours. Phew!
