Obscure day up north

So, we headed up north in search of some dry, easy access rock that we hadn't covered yet. We found:

Brown Crag, near Tarbet (quite nice if short) the shortest walk in ever, then after the playground Fisherman's view crag. That was quite nippy.

Next day School Crag at Kinlochbervie. Quite a good crag, lots of grades and variety from E4 to VS and less. Lucas enjoyed a VS an Brian a cool E4. I did the middle.

Checked out whether Sheigra Treasure Island might be a goer for next day (with a 6 year old in tow), but everything was sopping including second geo

Went to Little Big crag Crag and Roads Depot crag instead.

Little Big crag....honestly....it said 20 min, it was 40 min across bog, heather etc. at least. The climbs were quite overgrown and small, but good to be fair. Anyone in the world who has done them?

Roads Depot crag had some great climbs. Good quality at least a couple of stars if not three although short.

Love it up there, so many places to explore!!

Yes, there are lots of gneiss gems worth seeking out north of Scourie.

Big Little Crag (SMCJ 2013) is probably better than Little Big Crag then, though the walk in sounds similar.

A personal favourite is Balmy Slabs by Tarbet. Got to be one of the most idyllic spots around.

We stayed at the cottage across the road from roads depot a few years ago. Ashamed to say we were so uninspired by a look from the road we didn't bother venturing any further in.

Then again, the weather was great that week.

Visited The Balcony (p277 in Gary Latter) on Friday. Immaculate. Unfortnately got midged off after one route.......... We tried School Crag earlier in the day and were underwhelmed. Red Craig and Red Wall are also excellent.

Yeah, Red Wall is very good. A bit short, but nice climbing. The Balcony I haven't done yet. Have to check it out. We were lucky with the midges, they were notably absent. Must have been lucky for once...
