I have just received the following PM with the caveat that the author is not a registered UKC user:

"Send pictures with your asking price

carter17.*****@***.co.uk"

I don't know what it refers to. Can anyone throw any light on it please?

I was alarmed - thought for a moment someone had hacked my account and was trying to sell some random stuff in my name to get money out of folk without sending gear ...

Typically the scam would proceed with the victim agreeing to sell something to the scammer and the scammer paying by cheque, the cheque would be made out for the wrong amount by an incompetent secretary so the scammer would ask the victim to pay the difference back into their account, the cheque would then turn out to be fake, but the money paid by the victim would be long gone.
