With things hotting up in the leadership race, and an expanding list of candidates of varied 'background', I wonder how the votes of the UKC massif would be cast?

To date, the list looks like:

Tokyo Sexwale (South Africa)
Prince Ali Bin al-Hussein (Jordan)
David Nakhid (Trinidad and Tobago)
Jerome Champagne (France)
Musa Bility (Liberia)
Según Odegbami (Nigeria)
Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa
Gianni Infantino (Switzerland)
Sheikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa (Bahrain)
Michel Platini (France)*

* subject to sanction being lifted

FIFA - the international legislator for the 'world's favourite team game...'; given the number of footy posts on here I'd say it'd be of interest to quite a few...

Well Tokyo Sexwale has one of the best names ever so he gets my vote.
OP Greenbanks 26 Oct 2015
In reply to Lemony:

Jerome Champagne's is strangely apposite

Are there any who are free of corruption allegations or human rights abuses?
OP Greenbanks 26 Oct 2015
In reply to ianstevens:

That's the question. I feel sure that anyone associated with existing national associations must have been in on whatever stuff Sepp(tic) had going on.

As for human rights....another can of (very big) worms

It really would be nice if someone from (e.g. Denmark, Canada...) a country that doesn't appear to be mired in something or other distasteful were to throw their hat in. Almost too late now though

The ones who have never been involved with FIFA at any point...ever!

Infantino for me, seems the cleanest of the bunch,

Also, any sport should be regulated by and for the people that actually play the sport.

No point of a pacific island without a proper league (or places like Gibraltar, San Marino or Andorra at UEFA level) having the same voting power as countries with millions of registered players in a multi tiered league structure.

I would like to see votes within FIFA weighted by numbers of registered players as well as a factor reflecting the success of the national team over time. Ideally, any rule changes at least for the WC should be the prerogative of associations that have actually won the thing at least once!

Gets England under the wire...!

In reply to Greenbanks:

I imagine Infantino's in because of Platini's problems.

But you'd have to go with Platini every time.

Also David Nakhid was a reasonable footballer, played for biggish clubs in Europe and Internationally, so he'd go above everyone else, maybe even Infantino.

Según Odegbami used to play but stayed at his one club in Nigeria all his career so has little experience.

Course, José Mourinho is going to be looking for a new job soon, perhaps today's deadline will spur him into action.

Platini is an arsehole!

Another former top sportsman who has 'let himself go' ie. turned into a porker.

(Other examples include Serge Blanc and Steve Bruce)

And Maradonna, king of the porkers...

In reply to Greenbanks:

Platini for me as well - depending on the sanction result.

I did think Prince Ali Bin al- Hussein but gone off him now. Can't quite put my finger on why
OP Greenbanks 26 Oct 2015
In reply to earlsdonwhu:

> 'let himself go' < in respect of Platini is as much about his capacity to rationalise what appears to be a hugely irregular financial transaction between him and Sepptic

In reply to Postmanpat:
> And Maradonna, king of the porkers...

Don't forget Ronaldo.

 earlsdonwhu 26 Oct 2015
In reply to Postmanpat:

Maradonna at the rugby yesterday looked like an ex front row forward.

Garth Crooks also in the obese category.
OP Greenbanks 26 Oct 2015
In reply to earlsdonwhu:

Molby was always a fatty; few on here will remember United's Welsh midfielder, Graham Moore - also a bit of a removal van.

But being fat (a la Platini) is not a qualification for election as FIFA boss - though a fat wallet may well be a result
 earlsdonwhu 26 Oct 2015
In reply to Greenbanks:

Another one that I am reminded of ( admittedly in a different skill level to Platini, Ronaldo and Maradonna) is Razor Ruddock.

Although Thomas Brolin should get a mention as a heavy lifter even while he was playing.

Well, isn't 'fat, greedy b*stard' a suitable euphemism for FIFA president?

Good point.

I tell you, better an unconnected, bumbling fatty than any of the others. They're all at it.

Surely the most corrupt international organisation on the planet?
In reply to Greenbanks:

> I wonder how the votes of the UKC massif would be cast?

Guilty M'lud.
cb294 27 Oct 2015
In reply to Greenbanks:

The key question of course is, who do you want to win, and how much are you willing to pay your fellow UKC inmates for voting your way?

CB
OP Greenbanks 27 Oct 2015
In reply to cb294:

Hmm - they all seem to have downsides of one kind or another
I think, given the UKC populist groundswell, I'll be supporting Tokyo Sexwale for the name alone.

All I need now is to identify those whose votes I have to buy
In reply to Greenbanks:

Who are the big football nations? Spain, England, Germany, Italy, Brasil, Argentina....

Where are the representatives from these countries?

Bahrain/Jordan/Liberia ? wtf do these countries know about football? I'm sure i'm missing something but seems nuts to me
OP Greenbanks 27 Oct 2015
In reply to Bjartur i Sumarhus:

I tend to agree; interesting that most/all are replete with oil & have the rest of us falling over themselves to do deals with them. It is not about football at all.
