But while you are at it please can you confirm that this was a summer photo? If its summer then its a common seal (they pup in the spring). Grey seals are pupping about now. The seal pictured is losing its fur meaning that its weaned and probably left its mother. If it is St Bees (it looks like it to me) then its quite confusing as there are few common seal colonies in the Irish Sea. If its a winter picture then its more easily explained as it could be a Welsh, Manx or Solway coast seal. There is now a seal colony on Walney but there wasn't 10 years ago.
