Alright, for "kosher" read "genuine"!

I'm going to stick my neck right out and suggest this email isn't genuine.

Are you familiar with Bob Servant book 'Delete this at your Peril'?

If not get a copy straight away! You won't regret it.

It's £350 FFS.

You'd be a fool not to reply!

I think that's pretty obvious, the last sentence of my op being sarcasm.

Have you tried logging in to the HMRC site directly and seeing what it says about your tax status?
In reply to mypyrex:

Hardly worth it when it's come from "noreply@finance-gov.co.uk" which I know from experience is not a government email address, theirs ending "gov.uk"

Unfortunately the most vulnerable members of society. The old, those with learning difficulties, mental health problems etc etc etc

There is a interesting theory that the mistakes are actually intentional.
The problem with spam emails is you can send out a shit load for free but as some point you need to invest some effort into handling those who respond. So having errors in them helps trim down the responses and gets rid of those who will probably catch on a couple of emails in.
