Looking for small and fairly low grade (D-VD) crag to use for Single Pitch Training with a young inexperienced group. I've seen the Pass of Ballater crag but wondered if there was a nice wee site up round Braemar or Linn of Dee? Easy access a bonus.

I think the Pass of Ballater is going to be your best bet I'm afraid.
If you don't know the crag the Western Sector is best suited for single pitch training, the middle tier is the usual spot.

I've done a fair bit of searching for any undeveloped crags near Braemar and there's nothing that really fits your description. If you can head into the hills many of the cairngorm crags are nice. There is single pitch on the top of Beinn Mheadhoin but it's a long way!

There are some undescribed crags on the Balmoral estate but not really suitable. Also, there are some boulders on the Invercauld Estate (described in the database) and the small quarry by the Inver hotel (also in the database) but I still think you'd be best heading to Ballater.

It's a bit further away, but the Vat Burn crags might be another option. The topo seems to be offline just now but you can get it from https://web.archive.org/web/20151202050739/http://shelterstone.co.uk/tangen...

Not an abundance of amenable lower-grade routes at Ballater, you might need to travel. Cummingstone is good.

In reply to Mr Whippy:

There is a small crag 2 or 3 miles south of the Spittal of Glenshee (15 miles south of Braemar), on the east side of the road.
10 minutes walk along a farm track, across the river and up to the crag. Its visible from the main road.

It is a pleasant spot (sw facing) with 3 or 4 routes about V Diff and is ideal for novices. I don't think it is in any guidebook though.
