Forum Descriptions

To help you target your questions, answers and arguments, the forums are as follows:

ROCKTALK - A general forum for topics relating to climbing. This is the place to debate things like specific routes, ethics, grading, styles of ascent, top roping, headpointing, bouldering, bolts, the latest news and anything else that you have an opinion on. The only caveat is that the topic shouldn't be too trivial, keep the really light-hearted climbing stuff Down the Pub or in The Chat Room.

Starting Out - A forum for asking questions, whether you are deciding to get into climbing or have just started and need something explained. UKClimbing.com is visited by many experienced climbers, including climbing and mountaineering guides, who will gladly help out. Please check the UKClimbing FAQs before posting. If you are an experienced climber DO NOT post patronising or condescending replies on this forum - we were all beginners once!

Down the Pub - A forum for general non-climbing discussions and debate. Discuss politics, society, sport, whatever you feel like on this very popular forum. Please keep the trivial and extra light-hearted stuff in The Chat Room.
Please note - Unsuitable posts in DTP will be either moved to the Chat Room and closed, or just deleted. 'Unsuitable' means chatty posts between mates, trivial jokes and banter, mimic posts or posts with bad language in the starter post or title.

Culture Bunker - A forum dedicated to reviews and discussion of media and the arts. Just read a book? Why not share it by writing a review (max 250 words). Love music? Want to critique the latest releases? The Culture Bunker is the place. Seen a play or a film? Let's hear about it. This is the place to come if you are looking for a book, album or film recommendation.

The Chat Room - A forum for short-term chat - gossip, chatting to your mates, etc. Topics are deleted if they don't have any replies for 24 hours, so don't put anything important in this forum! The Chat Room is turned off by default from new users, and it is only available to registered users; you have to opt-in to see this forum. It is less-strictly moderated than the other forums and you may encounter some forthright views and strong language.

Rock Destinations - Rock climbing destinations Q&As. Interested in visiting a new rock climbing area? Having difficulties finding information? You are almost guaranteed that someone here will have been and can give you some pointers. It might be sun rock in Sardinia or sport routes in Switzerland. Where to stay, when to go, what routes to do.

BMC Areas - This forum is for discussion of local topics of interest, and in no way represents official views of the BMC unless specifically stated. It is not intended for general questions about the BMC, since staff and volunteers may not have the time to respond. Brought to you in conjunction with the British Mountaineering Council.

Walls & Training - Find out where the best climbing wall is in your area. Who goes there? What are the facilities like? Build your own cellar. Training tips and injuries info. It's all here. (And don't forget to check the Walls database either.)

Winter Climbing - From Scottish gullies to Rjukan ice falls, this is the forum to discuss everything involved with winter climbing. Conditions, what's in and what's not, avalanche risk, recommended routes plus accounts of your exploits.

Expedition & Alpine Mountaineering - Planning an overseas expedition or your first trip to the alps? Route and area info. Travel, logistics, bureacracy, equipment, etc.

Climbing Gear - Post all your climbing gear-related questions here. You know how you love comparing Friends with Camalots!

Photography - This is the place for all discussions relating to cameras and outdoor photography. Discuss the latest digital camera or have long discussions over the merits of one of the many thousands of photographs in the UKC Photo Galleries.

Lost & Found - Found something at a cliff, left something in the car park? Here's where to post your notice... good luck. Threads are auto-deleted after 90 days without replies.

Lifts & Partners - Need someone to climb with, or a lift to Scotland - put your notice here and make new friends! Please register first though since we don't allow partner requests from unregistered users. This is also the place to post notices about climbing friends you have lost contact with and are trying to find. Threads are auto-deleted after 90 days without replies.

For Sale/Wanted - A place for register users to buy and sell small items where the total sale is less than £500. Note: we take NO responsibility for the quality, legality, suitability of any goods marketed on this forum. Check our Guidelines for Safer Trading. Any individual sales for items totalling more than £500, or posts with links to eBay items, or people trying to rent accommodation, must use Premier Post at the £5 week rate. No commercial sales are allowed, these must be premier Posts at the appropriate rate. Threads are auto-deleted after 90 days without replies.
