One I've never really understood is the War of the Spanish Succession. France and Austria have go at each other, so England and Holland enter the war on Austria's side, and Bavaria goes in with France.

Spain is f*cking miles away and you've got a mini WW1 going on in Northern Europe!!

That was the one where Louis 14th got so carried away with siege warfare that he get an orchestra to accompany the army, and watch them along with half of the court and a dozen of his favourite mistresses. He'd also refuse to accept the surrender of the town until after the party was finished
