Hello folks,

Just wondered if anyone could give an insight into conditions on the Ben? Hoping to go up Observatory Ridge tomorrow as a Summer route. However, not seen much in the way of logs for this route in May. If it's still in wintry nick, we'll need to reconsider and come up with a Plan B.

I'm not a local but I would have thought it should be free of snow. But you'll need an axe to reach the bottom. A chance there will be snow at the top too.

Cheers. Looks like I got it the wrong way round. Less at the bottom and more at the top than I thought. But similar idea.

Thanks for the advice. We went ahead and climbed the ridge on Saturday on excellent dry rock. Some snow on top but soft enough that no crampons or axe required. A brilliant day out
