Hi all,
Just looking for a general indication, if anyone has had recent experience.
Saw a hand specialist today and he has requested a CT and MRI.
Any ideas how long I might be waiting on the nhs?
I'm Yorkshire region, if that makes any difference.
TIA

Tom

If you don't get a reply here, give the specialist's admin team a call. They'll give you up-to-date info on waiting times.

In reply to Tomtom:

Very much dependant on the clinical information on the request, and how it becomes prioritised.
then it depends on the how the dept works
Most depts (MR tends to have a longer waiting time) around 8 weeks, CT appointent may well come first. However, if the dept try to do both on the same day, then expect a longer wait.
Then it needs reporting on
Then you are back to see consultant, who wont see you until he has the results of both examinations.
Hope that helps.
Cheers
Nick

It took about 2 weeks for me from seeing the doctor to having an MRI. This was about a year ago and in sheffield.

Come to France while you still can. Just had one at a private hospital within 5 hours. Cost was €190

As I recall the centre in the area is Leeds. Your waiting time will depend on clinical need. If the issue effects your ability to attend work your GP/Consultant will be able to make it more of a priority.

About 6 weeks for me. Initially told the GP was referring me late March. After 4-5 weeks heard nothing. Went to CT while at work and asked, and they said no record of referral. Went back to GP receptionist and mentioned this and they said they'd message my GP. Still no referral letter as of late May / early June. Saw GP for a different issue then, and mentioned no appointment, and he resent the referral. I had a letter within 2-3 weeks and had my CT 21st June. So technically 3 months, but actually about 5-6 weeks from the second referral to the scan. Evidently the first didn't get through.

In reply to Tomtom:

Absolutely depends on the indication for the scan and the info your Dr put on the request as well as the local waiting times. As with everything if you haven't heard within a couple of weeks call the department (and don't be put off by unanswered phones or engaged phones and unresponded to answer phone messages, it's the same for us working inside hospitals and the guys are understaffed and doing several people's jobs!!).

At my hospital MRI is much quicker than CT, usually less than 4 weeks for both for routine stuff (but I do a fair bit of cancer and transplant so perhaps have a biased view).

However hope you get it sorted out all ok.

It was a week or two for my ankle, then I had to reschedule and got another a few days later. Bishop Auckland, County Durham.

In reply to Phil Payne:

Ditto here, same day appointment for a CT for kidney stones, cost $520 (£200 approx.)

Private insurance paid the majority of that

In reply to Tomtom:

Thanks for the replies, all.
Managed to wangle a cancellation next week for the MRI, and a CT slot in two weeks time.
Then I'll harass the specialist to stick pins in me, preferably whilst anaesthetised!

Thanks again.
