I have a few questions about the boulders at Fairlop waters... If anyone's been I would be grateful for your advice..., ta.

Has anyone been to Fairlop Waters? Is it any good?

Is it worth the trek over from South London by train and tube?

Do you need a bouldering mat?

Is it free?

Does it get busy?

It's a couple of years since i've been, but....

Free (but you may need to pay for parking if you cant get on the road outside)
Artificial boulders surrounded by gravel landing areas so mat not always needed.

I went as a way to try to keep sane while visiting the mother in law in Southend, it was actually really good and I really enjoyed myself, given the alternative that's not much of an endorsement, but worth a look definitely.

It's OK, and a lot better than not climbing.

> Is it worth the trek over from South London by train and tube?

If you have the time and can't get to real rock, yes. I've only gone by car, and that's a slog. North Circular on a weekend can be grim.

> Do you need a bouldering mat?

Wouldn't hurt, but most landings are flat gravel.

> Is it free?

Yes.

> Does it get busy?

I've been twice and I was pretty much the only climber there.
