I am getting messages from friends saying that they are getting emails from an address looking like mine. My email is e.g. xxxxxx@yyyyyy.com. The spam comes from xxxxxx@zzzzz.com. Is there anything I can do to clear this up?

No, your email addr has been harvested and a duplicate created. If it's not coming from your address (@yyyyyyyy.com) all you can do is wait for the provider of @zzzzzz.com to nuke the address.

You could always report the @zzzzzz.com address to the host though and get it crushed.

Thanks for this. The second part of the address zzzzz.com is very similar to a real company but with a minor alteration. I will see if I can report it.

Someone cloned an old email address of mine that was still active. I asked the ISP to delete the address and the reason why. They did that within 24 hours.

If you whois the address ( http://whois.domaintools.com/ ) it'll tell you who the owner is, where to report abuse - usually abuse@zzzzzz.com - and who the registrar is. If abuse@ doesn't solve the issue report the domain to the registrar and they'll look into it and shut it down if necessary.
