So reading the who do you miss thread got me thinking...

My first outdoor climbing was back in 1989 or '90, through a bunch of us from just North of London were packed in a mini bus and driven to North Wales.

Three memories...

1) Weather was crap, we went gorge walking up a mountain stream, it was wet and cold. Great fun.

2) There was a very cute girl, Sarah Massey from St. Albans, we were 14 or 15, I never saw her again. Sigh.

3) We went to a pub... for the life of me I don't know which it was, but in the back of my mind it had a very basic, homemade woody (it may just have been a single vertical panel, possible in a cellar, but this is very vague).

So, what pub was this? Was there a cellar and is the weather still crap?

Hadn't even heard of a woody ( not in a pub anyway) back then either.

Perhaps I was just out of touch.

I thought The Heights opened in '89 or '90(?). I think the wall had the full ceiling done by '91 because I remember hanging upside from my feet drinking a pint! I'm not sure what state it was in prior to that as I think you had to be a BMC member to use any of the facilities very early on. I went in for the first time with my Uni's club on a meet. There was certainly some reason I didn't go in on previous trips.
