In reply to Dave Garnett: Dave, thanks for that. I've sent him an email. Further suggestions welcome.
Basically it's unusual stiffness in ring and middle fingers on both hands for the past 4-5 weeks for a few minutes after waking up, and a strange "clicking" in ring fingers as I extend from 90 deg to full, again for a few minutes after waking. It's not chronic but I want it sorted ASAP and cost is no issue!
Have you been overdoing it on the wall or beastmaker, by any chance? I get a similar clicky thing on extension in my middle finger since I've upped the training a bit recently.
In reply to Dave Garnett: I never go to the wall and I don't use a Beastmaker but that would be a good explanation otherwise. This has happened since I went on London Wall. I suspect that lots of fingertip jams with no feet have had some effect. I didn't do it cleanly, but that probably goes without saying.
Although he is a 'knee' man now he did a lot of work back in the day on climber's hands including a research project when he was based in Leeds. A climber too.
In reply to Dave Garnett: I haven't because I'm one of those who thinks that inflammation is part of the healing/protection process but I might be wrong. I'm after a pre-emptive consultation to find out what's what.
In reply to Dave Garnett: I'm open to all knowledgeable advice. I've emailed your man and he can give me a definitive answer and such like. Thanks Dave.
