Decked out in April, A&E did an X-ray, diagnosed as sprain. Still painful 5 weeks later in May, back to hospital, x ray, diagnosed as broken scaphoid. A month later in a cast I saw an orthopedic consultant, who did another X-ray, and noticed bone necrosis, so refered me to the hand and wrist specialist. With another 2 months of cast.
CT scan and MRI then showed signs of healing, so I've been pissing around with ultrasound treatment for almost 3 months now. Back to the specialt in 2 weeks for another CT scan. Results will either path the way to surgery or a fit note!
Ive been going mad the last 7 months, and I'm desperate to see an end to this madness.
As others have mentioned, early x rays often don't show scaphoid fractures, so they should treat suspected fractures as one, immobilise and check up 2 weeks later. Evidently very few hospitals are doing this. You've probably got a case for medical negligence if you're that way inclined.
