I just get a massive 8a logo blotting out most of the screen. (Bl**dy Facebook never works properly.)

However he now has an Instagram account and has posted a pic on there:

Great effort by JD, even if it is far from the typical hard sport route.

Incidentally, the Spanish news item linked on 8a.nu mentions that the Meltdown was repeated by a Spanish climber earlier this year (as far as I can work out). Don't recall seeing anything about that - sounds like a pretty significant repeat.

The other Meltdown has finally been repeated and gets a first male ascent

Probably ought to be downgraded then.

To be more serious: it will be interesting to see what Traversi's thoughts on the grade are. There are routes that have been given a similar grade that have had many more repeats (or been repeated within a shorter timeframe, like Recovery Drink).

I know with Meltdown there's a conditions issue (it's dry for a relatively short window because of the waterfall spray), but still, it seems worth considering that maybe the reason it hasn't been repeated until now is that it's actually quite hard ...

Traversi's ascent also proves that the route isn't only possible for people with small fingers. And he's previously said on a podcast (Enormocast, I think) that he thinks that the difficulty of the route is much less dependent on finger size than people imagine, because for much of it no-one can fit their fingers inside the crack anyway, it's about using the edge for weird sidepull-y activity and suchlike.

That joke does get old but this is probably the best time it's been used

I wouldn't be too sure about that - I thought Alex Huber wore them most of the time?
