What an extraordinarily nasty article. Satirising something I've literally never observed in professional climbers, who in my experience are intensely aware of the privilege they have. Still, maybe I don't look close enough.
seems a bit harsh, practical jokes are meant to be about drawing the reader in so they laugh at themselves, not an excuse to be rude about people and force them to laugh it off. A better line would have been doing a rock fax review that said something negative, that would have got us going...

I'm getting sick of all the piss takers picking on barnsley, we're not all coal miners you know, ok all my family are,and so are my wife's,and all of my neighbours, but I'm sure some people aren't. Dickie bird ! He's not ( but he might have been, I'm not sure). Anyway lay off us barnsley folk, come on you reds !!!!!

But then again, I remember meeting a couple in Grimey (Grimethorpe), shades of Kes/Brassed Off... pretty much the most heart-achingly lovely people I've ever met.
Certainly going down Barnsley Main Colliery was a sobering experience. Respect.
