Babsi Zangerl on Chikane, 8c+, Siurana, Spain, 3 kbBarbara Zangerl has repeated the very technical and fingery Chikane, 8c+, in the Can Piqui Pugui sector at Siurana, Spain.

She began trying the route two years ago, and although I don't know how much she has worked it since, I suspect it's a great feeling to finally have it in the bag. What...

Interesting that women seem to be making the headlines far more than guys at the moment. Lost count of the number of 8c and harder ascents there have been over the past few weeks.

What are all the guys doing? I know Ondra narrowly missed out on two 9b second ascents recently (Neanderthal and Lapsus). But it mostly seems to be girls, girls girls. Surely due some guy action anytime now?

Umm I think you've taken my lighthearted comment the wrong way. I didn't say I didn't like it. Actually I think it's great and really inspiring that all these women are making the headlines. As a trend it's probably far too short term to be of any significance - which is why it's a just lighthearted waffle. But if not I'd be curious to understand why.

You've earned a dislike from me for being rude and aggressive.

I think your 'girls girls girls' comment was poorly written and probably came across the wrong way. It came across as an emphasised moan that men weren't getting enough coverage, rather than as a note that women were climbing lots of hard atuff. This surprised me given your other posts and hence I thought I had probably misunderstood, but I expect it is what Helen was reacting to. She doesn't help the cause of women's equality with her writing style, though.

There are currently reports of top drawer ascents around by both men and women, anyway

Fair enough and thanks for pointing that out. I can see what you mean. The perils of hastily written text so often be taken a different way to what's intended.
