Black Diamond Equipment President Ryan Gellert says the awards reflect the company's ongoing R&D processes, laboratory times and product tests. "Such awards also illustrate the ability of the teams to understand the needs of climbers, skiers or mountain athletes and to put important, well-thought out and high quality products on the market."

IF Design Awards 2012

The IF product design award has been a seal of approval for quality since 1953. Awards are given every year in the following three disciplines: Product, Communication and Packaging. For two days, 44 experts evaluated 4322 entries from 48 countries. From all the entries, 100 received the IF gold award this year.

The Black Diamond Magnetron GridLock won the golden award in IF product design in the Leisure & Lifestyle category, prevailing over 2923 other products. The Magnetron GridLock is a new generation safety carabiner with magnetised automatic locking, which forms a strong, simple and reliable mechanism. Brands like BMW, Apple, Daimler, Sony or Nestlé also won gold awards.

Plus X Award

The Black Diamond Magnetron GridLock was also given the prestigious Plus X Award for innovation, high quality and function. With more than 130 jury members from 32 nations, the Plus X Award is one of the biggest innovation awards for technology, sports and lifestyle.

Products with at least one "Plus X" factor are given the Plus X Award seal of approval. Newly developed and innovative technologies, extraordinary designs as well as intelligent and simple operation concepts are deemed prize-worthy. Criteria like good ergonomical and ecological product features as well as the use of high quality materials and their processing are also taken into consideration.

ISPO 2012

At ISPO Munich 2012, Black Diamond received an ISPO Award nomination in the outdoor accessories hardware category for its new Carbon Probe Pole with the new FlickLock Pro system. In winter 2012, all ski poles put on the market will be fitted with the new FlickLock Pro system. The FlickLock Pro is smaller, stronger and more compact than classic BD's Classic FlickLock system. It consists of a stainless steel structure with a flat design and has twice the clamping power of classic FlickLock adjustment systems.
