Edelrid are urgently recalling certain via ferrata sets as a precautionary measure, as it has been found that in certain cases the elasticated webbing branches, after heavy use, may no longer meet the relevant safety standards. The recall affects certain models made in 2010, 2011 and 2012.
PLEASE DISCONTINUE USE OF THE FOLLOWING EDELRID VIA FERRATA SETS IMMEDIATELY:
Edelrid are aware of the circumstances and consequences that this action will cause and offer their sincere apologies to you. The recall follows a fatal via ferrata accident, which took place on the 5th August. Investigations are still ongoing, and the actual cause of the accident has not been yet established by independent experts. Every via ferrata set that Edelrid has produced and sent out was certified for use.
What to do with the retired via ferrata sets:
General users can send their via ferrata set back to Edelrid, or return to the shop where purchased. Distributors, retailers and renters are urgently requested to collect all the relevant via ferrata sets, store them safely and return them to Edelrid. The via ferrata sets will be inspected, the webbing branches replaced, and the sets returned as soon as possible.
