Lead P2. Got off route to the right in search of gear and ended up in mixed hell. Ice generally in good nick though found some of the fluting and icicles a bit unnerving.

Thought VI 6 was fair grade today. short overhanging section through middle. could see how it could be V,5 it it formed slightly different.

Proved to be harder than it looked! After an initial easy section, the innocuous looking series of rightward-trending steps provided proved to be slightly overhanging, as did the traverse leftwards that followed to get round a large chandelier. After pulling out from this and making a couple of delicate steps rightwards I reached easier ground, which I ran out to the top of the main ice section, racing nightfall. The upper gully provided some fun steps. I thought solid V, Tom and Phil thought more like VI but I'm not having any of this grade inflation! Tom finished by headtorch. Climbed in G12s on my old B1s as the B3s were still being resoled - proved to be fine. Seemed to be the first ascent of the season.
