Ice a bit soft by the time we climbed it!
stevelismore - 2nd O/S - 26/Jan/13 with Gavin PCC, Phil PCC

I lead the III part up to the ledge. I think I was slightly too far right because the proper pillar was not very well formed and dripping a lot of water. From the ledge Nick lead to upper hanging icefall on the right which was harder than grade III

Peak district Scottish mountain day ??, great long day out, started from upper booth, went up Crowden Clough which was good fun & an easy solo on grade 1, then over to the downfall just "for a look" great surprise as it was well in ! Trouble was we were at the top, considered abbing down but too many people below, found a steep grass route down about 300m to the left side, ice scrambled up the stream which was fun then climbed the central route (iii) straight away as it was getting late, abed down the corner (iv) & did a traverse across the right side back to kinder low cutting steps !, all in all a great mountain day out & the downfall was a nice surprise

Spur of moment decision to head here instead of Wales, the right choice made! it was in! up to the big ledge, getting very thin and wet to top out, so abbed back down the corner pitch.

The Direct hadn't touched down, but the Central was in good condition. Good ice lower down was hollow in places higher up, was pretty wet through out. Done as 2 pitches, 1st pitch up to main ledge taking the steepest line ( 3 screws), 2nd pitch traversed left then finnished up the Direct fall( 2 screws ). Did a small pitch to the left of the top of Central direct, up a small ramp and then the 4mtr fall ( 1 screw ) Also top roped a 10mtr ice fall off to the left of kinder main fall

A real steal because it melted away a few days later and we did it on a weekday. Walked in from Hayfield, which was steady but took a couple of hours, with the approach to the base of the climb proving a bit as problematic we came in along the top of the plateau and pretty steep to get down - managed to walk down the flank some way away from the climb. Ian followed a rising right to left traverse line featuring several steps and ledged - good III. The direct had formed but was still looking a bit fragile. There were a couple of other bits of ice around but I needed to get to Ely so we called it a day. An excellent day, fulfilling a long-held ambition.

The Direct hadn't touched down yet but the Central was in good condition. Good ice, bit chewy in places and very little snow. Done as 2 pitches, 1st pitch up to main ledge below a large icicle, 2nd pitch traversed left and up a rock chimney for a bit of mixed interest. Team of 4, climbed as sun was setting.

I think this is the line I took. Avoided the traverse in from the right by heading straight up to a rock step (peg). Climb over the rock step to the base of a big wet icicle. Climb the icicle direct to a large platform. Continued up a small icicle to finish. The icicle went at grade 4.
