Found it easy until I hit the overhang move onto the slab near the top. Lots of foot/hand jams up the crack until I was brave enough to swing a right leg over onto the slab. It got pretty ugly after that as I thrutched my way up the last two moves.

I tried the inside route, but I'm a fat bas***d, so actually got stuck and had to throw my legs out into open space to give me some downward momentum. I therefore stepped out onto the slab, the foothold was high and once i'd managed to get my foot on it properly all that was needded was for me to shout expletives at myself. I think Ian was embarrassed belaying. It's a good job no kids were about!

Easy going moves up to overhang/hole to left of arete. Did the bold move over arete with hand jam down crack. Pushing hand on arete to get foot in place on the ridge before scrabling over and up with more hand jamming. Interesting leading opportunity with more practise perhaps.

With Ben. Getting past the boulder mid-way up was fine, but getting out from under the overhang near the top (onto the slab?) proved too much. Escaped left onto Captain Lethargy to finish, and walk the rope around to let Ben get the gear and have a go but he had the same difficulty.

The crux is efinitely the exit onto the slab at the top, the boulder lower down as described in Western Grit. Very undignified scrabble until foot latched properly onto hold on slab the easy stand for the top. Loved it!!

Western Grit describes the crux as being the fallen boulder 2/3rds up, with the easy route being to the left and under. Utterly wrong... The boulder was incredibly easy to pass (this from a fat, weak inexperienced climber). The crux was at the top, coming out from the under the overhang onto the slab on the left, which was a fairly horrid introduction to jamming. Great route.

Final climb of the day, getting dark, raining. couldn't manage top slab, so absailed down. Tom threw down ropes that then managed to get wedged behind boulder. Took Tom ages to retrieve it by torch light, while i couldn't really do much at the bottom.

Really solid and quick lead but took four attempts to finally approach the final problem correctly but once I got it it felt perfect and would be the only way up the climb if it was bad weather unlike Pete's technique on second! Jo ran out of puff and then got encouraged by Pete to try the caving route and then got even more tired but it was very amusing to watch!

An easy start leads to a tricky final move which is awkward as there is a tendency for a shoulder and head to get partly wedged in the crack. Once out on the front to the right the going is rather technical but only lasts for a couple of moves.
