Charlies first winter route - first route! Proper winter conditions, made the mistake of soloing up to the bottom of the butressprobably not a good idea with Charlie being on his first climb, was hard and slidey. Fist pitch up some ice, quite bold by Carl with one piece in down low - had about a foot left once he'd reached the belay.

We actually started up spiral gulley and then cut into crotched gulley. Unfortunately we were witness to a tragic accident on this climb. A young man named Hugh Pitcairn fell from the upper cornice whilst soloing and slid past us to his death. A slight epic ensued where I ended up leading the final pitch towing four ropes to get everybody else out of the gulley safely!
