Great day out, hit the car park by 7am and was at the base by 8:10am. First pitch in great nick and the icefall was superb, felt much easier then Raven Crag Gully earlier in the week.

Only the ice at the top of the route was in condition, so did a gully scramble to the left, down climbed to lead (alt) the frozen water fall.

A wet start as water was rushing out of the ice in places but this improved higher up. Good amount of ice to place up to 16cm screws, wouldn't bother with any longer.

Scrambled up to base, lower pitches not formed properly. The main corner of the gill was looking thin. The fall itself was good ice. Soloed the upper pitches which were mostly good, a few bits with water running behind and some patches of aerated/rotten ice.

Thursday night excursion. Started 30m to left (up turfy ramp with awkward step right) as little ice low down. Bypassed a few sections before joining the gill proper. Icefall pitch was moist with water running behind in some places, but generally good. Upper easy steps in good condition

Loads of people mid week. It felt like Stanage in winter! Pretty cold in Shap (-7c, -9c in the morning). Snow chains definitely helped to get back out of Haweswater road.

High levels of snow with fairly good ice followed by 50-60 mile an hour winds on topping out. 30 mins into top out a complete white out arrived, walking down inn darkness and snow blizzard. All in all a great day out.
