MY FIRST ICE CLIMB!! Love climbing the ice, hated the approach, hated the neve and hated the descent, so our of an 8 hour day, I love about 30 mins of it, not including drinking my hot fruit juice at the top!! :-)

Middle start well-formed with fat ice. Led (very tentatively) up that and belayed off a block and a nut whilst Ewan romped up and towed the rope up the next 50m from where we soled to the top on perfect low-angle neve.

A very cold day, brittle ice and deep powder.

Starts at the chimney, gives the longest pitch of ice. If you go over the ice bulges on the right it gets easier but youll miss the main pitch. Today there was plenty of ice ranging from OK to reasonable condition, too much powder snow but turf frozen nicely. Bomber belays on big pinnacles whenever we needed them at the top of each pitch. Finished right.

My first proper ice lead, placing screws. I led the right hand steep ice though I noticed a much easier way up the left hand slabs which another team did. Perhaps thats why its ll/lll. Definitely a 3 for me!

Took a line on the right hand side of the slabs. Some good short steepish ice sections interspersed with sections of mixed climbing on granular snow with a hard crust. Could do with more thaw freeze to consolidate.
