Helluva Slab** S 4a
[Mike Helluva Slab Hella Point, 3 kb]3 pitches.

Rockfax Description
When viewed from the mainland, the long seaward edge of Hella Point is an irresistible line. The approach and the climb itself combine to provide a classic outing at the grade. Start on a small ledge below a slab at the base of the arete.
1) 4a, 17m. Climb the slab to a large ledge and belay.
2) 14m. Climb the chimney and move up over blocks to a good ledge and belay.
3) 4b, 12m. Boulder up the wall above the ledge and continue up a chimney to finish. Scramble off and reverse the approach back to the mainland. © ROCKFAX

An awesome outing! Abseiling from the top could be avoided by a down-climb at about Mod.

Top rope solo. Brilliant route in stunning setting. The bold scramble to set up the ropes at the top and the scramble back off make this quite adventurous.

I led the second & third pitches as one. A great route! Loved the bouldery section, which didn't stump me as I had thought it might. Got a lot of rope drag by joining pitches though and wasn't sure where the end of the route was. Really fun an enjoyable route.

Nice easy route with classy grey rippled first pitch slab. Fun but easy chimney on 2nd pitch and boulder problem moves start to 3rd.

Lovely sunny afternoon after getting rained on in the morning. Intended on single pitching it, but tide caused a hurried change of plans due to seconds not wanting to get wet
Graham T - Lead O/S - 24/Oct/10

Only climbed the top 2 pitches due to the big swell. Traversed in at 10 foot below the first belay.

Lead P2. Lovely position by the sea. Guidebook approach not necessarily the best once you have gotten through the 'maze of boulders'. The easily confused 'boulder bridge' is the area of black boulders. P3 has a nice boulder problem start but then turns into crappy scrambling over boulders covered in long-stranded lichen that prevents friction and breaks off to blow into your eyes! May be better to go left at the top of P2 and back to the approach. All in all al lovely outing!

Very misty day. We were going to check out Chair Ladder but visibility was too poor so gave it a miss. Bumped into Brian P and his girlfriend. Navigating to the start of the climb was more of an expedition than the climb itself. Took wrong turns and ended at dead ends twice at sea level. Quite eerie in the mist down at the water's edge. A seal popped out of the mist to watch whilst we were climbing.
