After the Direct start. I led P1, featuring a short steep icy chimney followed by easy ground (a bit tricky with unconsolidated snow), belaying before the next bulge and chimney. Alex led through to the top, which proved to be the money pitch of the day. Thrutchfest central! Knees and shoulders were regularly deployed to facilitate upwards udging. The top chimney was the hardest bit, hooking dodgy ice while chicken winging with one shoulder saved the day! Pretty exhausting, glad to reach the top! On/off snow showers through the afternoon but no wind, so nice enough. A short descent saw us back at the top car park 12 hours after starting. Great first route of the season :-)

Pure, unadulterated udging. Very sparse conditions in the chimneys but -just- enough ice to be climbable. Led P2. A mixture of back-and-kneeing, chicken wings and super sketchy hooks allowed upward progress but did result in some serious whole-body pump. Apologies to anyone who heard the vile stream of profanity issuing forth from the top of the route!

Quite a battle for the first route of the winter. Traversed in from the curtain. Powder snow and verglas poor neve made it tough. Quite technical sections and a real battle to get past narrows without neve on slab and top chimney just brutal. Brilliant.

Led P1 & 3. Thought the guide had told me to go tunnelling at the top...nearly got stuck! Great route and obvious line

A real battle, with a tight squeeze at the top.

First grade VI. Did chimney in 3 pitches. led 1st pitch and final narrow slot....demanding but great route. Had to take sack off for my pitches.Descended ledge route.

Continuation of direct start, to make 4 excellent pitches of climbing. I led the first chimney, Scott led the second. Quite a bit of unconsolidated snow beneath an icey crust made it hard going at times.

Crucial ice block collapsed in the final chimney, a fight ensued to pull out of the last chimney over the right hand side face (last bloody move of the route!), 2 falls later and we decided to ab back off. Bastard.

Stopped 40m from the top in thawing conditions + spindrifts. Last chimney was dripping all over...rank.

We walked up with a route in mind and realised that carn dearg was as white as we had ever seen it. So decided to try route 2 direct. Pitch 1 was not in so went for route 1 direct, wanting to traverse back right after. Then, the damned unforecasted thaw clamped on, and damped us! Tried to do the whole of route 1 but had to give up on the ledge and pack it in. The start is 3 piches and was 40+27/8+25 m of climbing (the guide says 70 but we took a more logical line right). It felt like a short route of its own.
