The crag is owned by Yorkshire Water, looked after by the ranger team at Calderdale Borough Council and is designated a SSSI. Please keep dogs on leads and beware of car break-ins. Please also note the seasonal voluntary restrictions relating to ground nesting birds.
Dates: 1 March to 31 July
Reason: Nesting Birds
The restriction applies to night time access (for lamping / lantern sessions) during nesting season. Ground nesting birds are numerous in this area and easily disturbed at night, so please avoid visits after dark during the spring and early summer.
Rockfax Description
14m. The magnificent arete tapering to a shark's fin hanging in space is a stern test of any cragsman's ability. As appears to be so often the case with classic grit aretes, there are runners available in the half-height pockets. The loss of pebbles after the third ascent has made it harder - it may be unrepeated in this state. © Rockfax

βeta: I think crucial pebbles came off the crux after the 3rd? ascent and made the route significantly harder (and unrepeated in its present state?). Not the best choice as the "Top E8 in Yorkshire". New Statesman has had more ascents therefore more concensus? | βeta? | |
