Poor vis and snowing, good neve, brittle ice with sugary 'topping' on 1st ice pitch. Soft snow in middle pitches, 3rd ice pitch was really good, most screws ok. Topped out in a white out, descent via the window. Paul led 1, 4 & 6, I led 2,3 & 5, great day.

Soft and cruddy. Intermittent rain.

Mix of good neve, hard but brittle ice and sugary crud which seemed to be prevalent on the harder moves - glad I wasn't leading ! still a top day in good conditions topped out to sunshine and great views

Quite busy for midweek but no one on SPD. An excellent route in great condition, having the route to ourselves and being tucked away in the gully kept the sounds of braying to a minimum.

Excellent route. Generally great neve (hard work getting any decent screws though) with a couple of patches of horrible crud.
Northern Mountain Monkey - Lead - 18/Feb/13
Excellent day , cracking first pitch , hard neve in gully leading to a steep step of sugary crud unable to protect so ran out 45m to peg belay , crux pitch led by Aidy sugar snow tunnelling at its best , topped out to beautiful sunset and a moonlit descent of easy gully , top day .

ice was a cruddy mess, gear was essentially none existant. climbed it with two heavy duty old stylee charlet moser mountaineering axes as my new ones dont arrive till tomorrow! skipped the 2nd crux section by going round the side as the ice was too poor to even get placements. Just plain dangerous in this state!

Matt lead P1 and P3, I lead P2 and P4. Ice quality was poor, gear was ever poorer.

Hacking good first pitch. Sugary snow and spindrift thereafter. Fun, wild day out nonetheless. Top effort from James at the helm :)

Great day, 1st Ice fall was great, didn't make the 2nd one, a few pings (lost count)and retreated with tail between legs to by pass. Will be back!

Great first pitch, crux pitch made scarier by soft snow, most belays were "marginal". Great day out!

What a day. Storm got us 3 pitches before the Summit.I uttered the mantra.

Epic, hard, belays hard to find, stormy etc ect! Had to by pass last ice fall. Glad to get home!

Brittle ice, lead pitch 3.
Hannah Evans - AltLd - 03/Jan/11 with Scott Kirkhope, Ken Applegate
Ice was very brittle today and dinner-plating everywhere, so felt very hard for the grade. Actually, it felt very hard for V,5! Had to bail off the crux icefall, and leave two ice screws behind. Escaped up easier ground.
Ken Applegate - AltLd - 02/Jan/11 with Scott Kirkhope, Hannah Evans
(Semi-direct). Ice incredibly hard and brittle. Willie led first pitch which felt hard for 4. Team in front bailed off the crux which looked fearsome (moreso in the failing light). Nipped round to the left in the dark with one headtorch between us.

Water running behind the first pitch though ice was sound. Very solid ice on the last crux. Fab climb considering the thaw setting in.

First pitch was dinner-plates, so traversed in from the R and climbed all pitches direct. Couldn't reach the belay at top of the Great Pitch so buried my axes and trusted in God and Joe not to fall off! Superb weather and brilliant climb!
