Wore myself out trying to get a stuck nut out at the crux, ended up on the rope so I could use 2 hands on it. The crux was nails but you climb down and right for a good rest

Found this to be an enjoyable climb up until the crux, unfortunately I couldn't finish it. Think doing the same move again and again really didn't help. One to come back to, don't feel too bad, did my first VS earlier in the day.

Jen started the lead for this route and had no issues until the mantle. After many valiant attempts and becoming too pumped after looking for holds and trying different moves Mike finished the lead for this route but veered left to get around the mantle. We had to finish this route quickly since the sun was setting. I seconded the route and by this point knew where all the hand holds were on the crux. Still a strenuous move and not as nice as I had anticipated. I had one rest before committing to the mantle.

Spent ages on this, downclimbed from the crux several times (including when 2 others decided to climb X-ray, if I'd fallen off the crux - which seemed likely at the time - I'd have taken them with me). Finally downclimbed to the ground, taped up the hole in my hand, and led straight to the top. If Cosmic Crack is 'solid 4c' as per the BMC guide then this must be 5b (it isn't and it isn't!)

BETA WARNING: Hardest move I've encountered on lead! Up to the overhang things are very easy and well protected, then I was stumped! Figured this would be the 5a move but blimey! Moved up, with the strenous move on the left struggled to see anything useful above this (where the hells the jug thats ment to be there like on most 5a's?!) so downclimbed a move or two to a strenous rest to try and re-evaluate things, sat in a hard position staring at my mind trying to think of any useful holds I'd just seen. Went up and round again, couldn't see anything except a poor jam in the break, wacked a cam in it and climbed back down, trying to find my rest. Eventually found my rest again, climbed up again after a moment or two, saw there was a little bit of a ledge further back, put my hands around the back of it, it was all greasy and full of ming! hung around on the layback looking for the move to get me over the lip, couldn't see it anywhere! Eventually ran out of stamina, warned my Dad I was going to dog (my first ever) on the slightly dubious cam in the break, it held my weight (very thankfully as I wouldn't have liked to fall onto my lower gear!) after abit of a rest, went up again, had a spy around, eventually found abit of a edge on the large boulder above the break, about 1.5cm big and sloping, best I could find, tried pulling on this, felt exhausted, moved down and dogged again. Finally saw that there was abit more of a lip higher up, pulled on the previous small lip with my right hand, just enough to get my left hand up and round the bigger ledge, again very wet and slimey, but managed to nail it. Pulled myself over and sorted. Abit pissed off because I can normally do 5a moves first time and have never dogged before (have fallen twice though). Will be back again sometime, have a bone to pick with this one. Dad got almost all the gear out but had the same problem as me and decided to be lowered off at the overhang. Nice climb but very hard for VS in my limited experience.
