In fact looking again, it probably was neither and perhaps just exceptional foreground light!

Hi James. I don't use HDR but I do bracket and exposure blend, despite also often using ND Grads, to capture a bit more detail and balance in the sky.

What people see in HDR I don't know? Much better to exposure blend as a more natural result is obtained, much as the eye views the scene. Lovely exposure Andy. Perhaps others will observe & note.

Exposure blending is just another means to HDR, what most people do not like are the over saturated high contrast pics that many Photomatix users produce.
