what are those dangly bolt things?

As this is Southern Sandstone *i think* that those bolts were probably put in to protect climbs a long time back and so that people could lead them. I imagine it was done before people fully appreciated the brittle nature of the rock and top-roping/soloing became the crag ethic. There would be a high likelihood of the bolt/rock failing if one fell on it i suspect. I could be wrong...

Weren't they placed for aid climbing (and practise), well before the line was climbed free?
