The couple arrived at the crag shortly after me. We soon began chatting and I enquired where they were from....I was surprised by their response "New Zealand", to which I replied "that's a long way for a weekend"...laugh's all round. It turned out the couple actually lived local until twenty years ago when they left for New Zealand. They were on holiday visiting family. Brian had actually climbed at the Wainstones in the 1970/80's and was keen to climb some of the classic's again. While unpacking their rucksacks full of climbing gear, Brian pulled out a little green guide book which I immediately recognised...it was the 1970 guide to the North York Moors that I had written,how bizarre.Brian had no idea who I was at that time so introduced myself. We chatted for a long time about climbing on "The Moors". Great day and really nice people.
