Alan was "on form" and having a fabulous day. A few hours before this photo, he had made the first ascent of what is now a classic test piece...New Dimensions [E3 6a]. The ascent of "Alan's Wall" was just a blur, ground up, and on sight. Asked about the grade, Alan's reply, VS 4c .... I suppose after New Dimensions, that's how it felt!
