How is the arete "not in", it looks about 1 foot from his left hand here? Or is that just photo weirdness??

No arete? It is the arete! and pre placed runners???..er.....

I admit its slightly eliminate to start but that's the route, besides who cares about two pre placed runners which wouldn't hold a fall anyway. Its just climbing does it really matter?!

I asked a genuine question, sometimes you can't tell from photos....
Generally if you're claiming new routes with E7-ish numbers, posting them online, showing photos, it's useful to have clarity about the line, protection, etc.

I am mostly curious as to why you wouldnt use the arete?

Well you're trending rightwards away from the arête so I didn't use the arête but feel free to come down for an onsight burn.
