A neglected crag partly due to access issues. No excuses - the cycle track or the footpath passing Morwell Barton get you straight to the top of "C" Buttress with the rather excellent Cold Grief (E1 5b)** (cleaned Oct 2016). It is possible to park for free to use either of these access routes.
Access to the northern cluster of crags is more problematic due to private signs. There is a legal route up to Chimney rock from the Lodge though.

Ive been doing new routes on shale with Don Sargeant recently. love it!

Well it is pretty hard so I'd describe it as slate. It really isn't loose and gear is reliable.
