Another one I'm putting in mainly for the historic record rather than photographic merit, because Tim was my main climbing partner for the three intensive years while I was at university. I have very few pictures of him climbing, mainly because we were very much focused on climbing rather than photography. Tim was very bold and took an enormous number of usually big falls (his nut-placing skills were famously bad!). I think in one year he clocked up about 700 feet of 'air time'!
About the route: that old favourite Heather Wall. It was graded Severe when we did it here on one of our first trips to Stanage in November 1969, using Byne's 1964 guidebook. Another example of a climb that has got easier and better protected with modern gear, yet has been upgraded. I think VS 4c is in fact fair, but it just shows how fierce those old grades were.

Certainly doesn't look like a 'modern' Severe.
