I love this photo - Im trying to show the kind of thing my strange little mind notices when Im endorphined off my box after a good climb.
I had so much hassle to get UKC to post it - but I'm glad they did.

If it's taken in a mountain setting then it fits the 'Landscape' category for me. Quite an abstract image but not the sort to appeal to most on this site. Perhaps a photography site would be more appreciative. I had a similar shot, taken up on Beinn Eighe which arroused similar apathetic response. Animals and anything with flowers also much derided. Keep posting as I would like to see an abstract category on UKC, provided that the image is sourced from within a mountain environment.

good on yer! I agree that there should be an abstract catagory then we might get some interesting photos

I like it, in a different kind of way!

Nice, it has a real graphic quality, the removal of details allows you to absorb the fluid shapes of the snow and water, one in the same but not... definitely falls into the genre of this site and the intentional post work makes it fine art. Theres plenty of other shots that should be questioned before this one.

Thanks Jools - youve kind of put in words what I was aiming for I think - some people think the posterisation isd messed up - but to my mind it is reducing the picture down to basic shapes and a pleasing composition - I am happy with it.
With 7 excellent, 12 good ,7 average, 10 poor and 4 rubbish it has certainly provoked a range of reactions
and to my mind that is a very good thing - a function of art even (excuse my pseudishness)
Appreciate your comments

It's a landscape image, David, so in my eyes it shouldn't have had a problem getting through. In my opinion, it's not a great image, but it's good, definitely a 4. I like how you've manipulated it to bring out the 'definites' in the image. It emphasises the 'black and white'. The purity of the landscape screams out for such an emphaisis. I think, artistically, you've done it a favour. I think you've made the original image better. Ironically, the original would have gotten through straight away, but that isn't how it should be. We all like to say we should base our satisfaction of the image on our own feelings on it, but others' opinions DO affect us and, as human beings, we NEED to have our opinions to VALIDATE our thoughts and feelings. It's along the same lines as why 'gossip' is an ESSENTIAL part of our existence.
Peace!

that should read "we NEED to have others' opinions to VALIDATE our thoughts and feelings."

I don't understand why there were any objections to publishing the photo - I'd have approved it. It's of snow and water in a climbing area, FFS!
