Are there any yorkshire gritstone crags easily accessible via public transport? Preferably from Leeds, either by bus or train?

Cheers,

Adrian

In reply to melto1664: Baildon, Caley, almscliff and Ilkley are easy enough. Heptonstall is a bit further

Baildon - train to shipley, then 25 minute walk

Caley - X84 to otley, get out when you see boulders on your left

Ilkley - Train/Bus to ilkley, then 20 minute walk to the crag

Heptonstall - Train to Hebden Bridge then a 35 mins walk to the crag.

Almscliff - train to weeton then 25 min walk

Or Crow's Nest Wood Quarry is about 5 minutes walk - whether you'd want to bother is another matter!

In reply to melto1664: Train to Skipton and bus to Embsey gives you access to Crookrise and Eastby. Bus to Grassington from Skitpon gives you Rylstone.

Train to Keighley and the Burnley bus gives you access to Earl Crag.
Train to Shipley gives you Shittly Glen or Baildon Bank.

In reply to EeeByGum: Rylstone, eastby and crookrise are all very easy to do with bikes from Skipton Station as well

Hawkcliffe: Train from Leeds to Steeton & Silsden and then a 10-15 minute walk. Or go to Keighley and get the Skipton bus and alight at the bus stop by Hawkcliffe farm.

It's all in the thumb. You guys break a sweat and I'll see you up there when you eventually arrive, yeah?

Also some peak district gritstone is easily accessible by train from Leeds - the Chew valley crags are fairly close to Greenfield station.

In reply to Will Hunt:
Lol, are we all giving you a 20 minute head start or something?

In reply to Dave Warburton:
I wouldn't there all a bunch of dicks. Who all go around saying look at me I am a mountaineer, Im cool and we go lots of wicked places like birchen and skye!
But that said being a member of the leeds uni climbing club should mean beast like jamming ability from the cliff, Henry Price Level finger strengh(one armers on little pebbles) and finally a fetish for tight lycra.

In reply to Will Hunt: Fat Bastard. I saw you in Headingly the otherday, you actually fit in very well with all the 'gay looking' student types. Still, could be worse, you could do Geography.

Love x

In reply to melto1664:

Caley, Chevin, Shipley Glen, Baildon, and Hetchell if you want from Leeds all nearby

Calder Valley - Heptonstall - Widdop (there's an occasional bus)

Crookrise, Eastby and the other one there via train to Skipton then hoof it/bus
