Not sure why the narrator refers to deer rather than elk. Perhaps the makers thought their audience couldn't comprehend the difference?

In any case, it is actually the impact that the wolves had on the elk which made the difference.

Yes. And these wider influences have occured in a relatively short period of time which does give us all a little hope that our influence is a little more ephemeral than eternal
