Heptonstall - Demerara block gone

I presume by the neat cairn at the bottom of the route that the 'belay' block was deliberately removed (in the past week)? Deemed unsafe?

as i understand it there was nothing deliberate about it! i believe both parties escaped unhurt, if possibly a little shaken.

Thank god for that! Do you know if they were top-roping or leading? That blocks been used as a top rope anchor for aeons!

Ok - this is only second hand but due to my crap recollection is slightly Chinese whispers. I believe they'd just led thin red line and had a cam and the in situ sling (?) clipped. Whole groove collapsed, sling severed, rope not (phew), bodies uninjured. I'm sure someone will be along with more precise info.

"Beware on Thin Red LIne at Heptonstall. A climber clipped that thread at three-quarters height and began to lower off. The block came away. Luckily both leader and belayer were fine. The block fell away to the right looking in."
