Can anyone point me to sources of information from those on the ground in Thailand, as opposed to news sites. Do I need twitter?
I have a niece there, and we spoke this morning as she was about to leave Bangkok and travel south on public transport, but nothing since, so would like to know what conditions are like, in an immediate sort of way.

Greenbanks Junior is in South Thailand at the moment
We spoke yesterday. (Skype)
All peaceful - all the fixed gear still in place. The diving still ace
In other words, Junior was asking us what we were fussing about - it was mellow

Usually when these things happen in Thailand (as they do once in a while) the effect on the ground is minimal. Wouldn't worry excessively, all they'll likely see is some disruption to daily life rather than being in actual threat.

Talking to a colleague who lived out there for a while and during the last time this happened. He was working in a TV station and was told (at gunpoint) to take the service off air, which he did and then they all went out and had a nice time. He described it as almost a national past time and would happily go there right now for a holiday.
