For work, we have to come up with something brilliant we've seen online, something original and clever.

I've spent the last day thinking the web is almost totally rubbish.

Is there anything good on the Internet?

At the moment you can play pacman on google maps - that's pretty good.
In reply to Owen W-G:

You must be joking: Googling, Wikipedia, email, on-line banking, etc, etc. Yes, there is stacks of rubbish - most of the "social media" IMO - but it is easy to ignore.

There is *so much* brilliant stuff on the internet. Of all the stuff, for some reason this is what sprang to mind...

youtube.com/watch?v=WXvsl8xgRxc&

Possibly a better example of something "original and clever" (and only available on the internet) might be Adam Curtis' latest art-documentary thing:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/p02gyz6b/adam-curtis-bitter-lake

But the internet mainly provides music and film and various forms of art and information that might otherwise be out there but we'd never know or have access to it.

Like this tune:

youtube.com/watch?v=s2ZXFpdcPqM&

Or Steven Fry talking about the meaning of life (from a humanist perspective)

youtube.com/watch?v=Tvz0mmF6NW4&

Or this brilliant Tim Minchin performance

youtube.com/watch?v=JipYDDXo5C0&

I could go on and on...

Zoomable globe showing what the wind is doing everywhere, click wherever you like for coordinates and wind-speed.
http://earth.nullschool.net/

Go on Google maps, change it to satellite view and zoom all the way out and it shows you the position of all the stars in relation to the planet, and lights the globe correctly for the time of day and season. You can also go and take a look at the moon and mars, though sadly there's no street view.

Agree - at it's best superb, at it's worst... well, let's not go there.

But it is what we make it - and it's up to us to make it better.

With an enormity of hard work, they've provided the most fantastic playground for us - we get to play in it.

But it's up to us to make it better.

Brilliance is vanishingly rare on the Web but it does exist. Off the top of my head, I nominate: XKCD, PHd Comics, TED and ye olde MET Office.

Incomprehensibly, that tune reminded me of Song of Life by Leftfield. Nothing like it, but a very similar sample used throughout (comes in at 1m23s on your tune)
youtube.com/watch?v=_a2RIwg_KFU&
(comes in at 17m 7 secs)

Shows i'm not bored of the internet anyway

Superb! Have you seen the OK Go's "This Too Shall Pass" video? youtube.com/watch?v=qybUFnY7Y8w&

My favourite music vids at the moment are the Mario Weinerroither ones with the music taken out....
(God I laughed when I first saw The Elvis Presley one.)

I love XKCD (though it sometimes goes over my head). Hadn't heard of PHd Comics before, ta. :O)

More comics:
Oglof (A lot of the time it's just filth though - definitely NSFW.)

Alright then...

If you know Adam Curtis' stuff, then this is total genius (doesn't mean much if not):

youtube.com/watch?v=x1bX3F7uTrg&

Stewart Lee on UKIP and the endless void of nothing

youtube.com/watch?v=phFkdUNhUfA&

Philameana Cunk and Barry Shitpeas on money

youtube.com/watch?v=cd3X6AZjVOM&

Bit more serious this one:

And I love these podcasts - here's a memorable one:

http://www.radiolab.org/story/317421-blame/

And a bit more music/video by some mates of mine:

vimeo.com/44419542

Something a bit more classic, favourite tune, amazing performance:

Lordy. They've come a long way since the treadmills! :O)

Amazing, but I'm not sure I like it - perhaps a bit too big and commercial. (In the same way the 'This Too Shall Pass' vid is somehow both more and less impressive than the one Mal Grey posted.)
