Just a quicky..... What's the best way to stream music to a wireless speaker that does't involve having a computer on 24x7?
Thanks

In reply to Indy: Depends on what you have already, speakers ect'? Do you have a tablet/smartphone? Presume you mean desktop pc or laptop by 'computer'.

Yes, have laptop, phone, tablet and desktop but was wondered if there was a dedicated bit of kit that can stream. Also got the speakers just don't want a PC on 24x7

Look into 'wireless media hubs'. My understanding is they're a hard drive that can be left on, independent of a computer, and stream music/video/photos etc to your devices.

There certainly are, look for Network Audio Players. You'll want to think about how much of your music you want available, as this may lead you to a Network attached Storage device too, which is essentially another computer.

There's loads of option so more detail of what you have and what you need would help to narrow it down.

Depends on budget. I use Spotify and you can stream Bluetooth to a speaker and control from phone.

If you want stream your own music files ( MP3, WAV etc) eg ripped CDs, you can use a NAS Drive as central file storage. This can be left on 24 x7 plugged in to your router.

I have just bought a 4 TB Western Digital "WDMyCLoud" to stream to Sonos speakers; it works very well and was pretty straightforward to set up and link to Sonos software. About the size of a think hardback and sits in cupboard under the stairs next to my router.

Can also be used as backup storage and streaming photos

If you want to play your own music, you'll need a media server. This could be a NAS, or your router and an HDD, or an android device, media app and HDD.

Plenty of options discussed in previous threads:

i bought a 64gb micro sd card and have all my mp3s on this, use my smartphone to stream to my bluetooth speaker or headphones. seems to be a good way of doing it, all the control you'd want on your phone. A paid for ap like Poweramp helps with organising and playing your music.
