 UKC News 21 Jul 2017
Alex Mason has added a high quality E7 6c to the popular and well-established crag Clogwyn Du'r Arddu (Cloggy), North Wales, which he has named The Cwm Face. The line is situated on the Far Far East buttress, up and right of the start of Boomerang???????. Alex has described the route as being 3 star in quality and 'ripe for the onsight attempt' with 'almost good' protection. It sounds like someone already has their eye on it...

I would be interested to hear other climbers opinions on 'trad' project theft.

Huh? By the sounds of it he spotted the line, cleaned mud out of the cracks then led it. If you mean Caff, then (a) there's no evidence here he was actually going to nab the route, and (b) he may have already known about the line, in which case fair game!

No, not this route specifically. Just the general question.

In that case, I guess if someone has told you about 'their' line in good faith it seems bad form to step in and do it before they've had a proper go at it (I realise the latter is open to different interpretations!). Unless of course it's something you've already spotted and considered doing yourself, in which case it seems unfair to have to give up a line just because someone else has mentioned it to you.

You're so right, it's a real shame. No humour & no imagination - but at least he's dead good at climbing so that's something. Where's JR when we need him?

I have always thought that if I made a first ascent near Bananas, Llanberries and Strawberries I would have called it Cwmquat.
