It's not super close, but Jashan restaurant in Turnpike lane is one of the best Indian restaurants I've ever been too (including in India).
There's only 2 problems - you've probably already gone out, and I believe it's shut on Mondays

In reply to jhw: The pub down the road is recently under new management - used to do Thai food and now does slightly pricier gastropub type stuff. About £10 for a steak I think. Forgotten what it's called but just turn left and it's just past the bus stop on the other side of the road.

brownswood is noway near as good as it was, that thai food was gorgeous. oh well. YumYum is a really nice restaurant if you don't mind teh walk (about 15/20 mins)
