Hot Ice* E4 6a
[Hot Ice, Chudliegh - before Pete ripped the gear and destroyed the mid-height pocket., 4 kb]

Rockfax Description
A short but serious arete. Start at the arete left of the smooth wall climbed by Seventh Veil.
Slick and balancy moves up the right side of the arete gain an easing midway. Head directly up the wall right of the arete to finish. © ROCKFAX

UKC Logbook Description
The short arete to the left of Seventh Veil. The half-height pocket has lost a bit of rock making a larger hold and possible gear placement ... still probbaly more sensible to consider this a solo proposition.

On 25/09/10 a climber took a fall onto the mid-height (and only) gear, which ripped-out and loosened a large block (2'x 1'x 0.5'), which was removed. Now needs cleaning and re-grading. He fell from above the gear, but thankfully had three mats on which he landed on his back, did a pretty impressive backflip onto his feet further down the hill, and bit through his tongue!

The half-height pocket and gear placements have recently broken off following a fall from the top face. The route is now slightly harder and finding protection is harder still.

Two micro wires popped out. on close inspection this cracked a significant piece of rock which slotted out of position.

Very delicate climb with polished surface. A tough climb.

Very cheeky climb, especially the middle. Good for learning about the placement of foot holds. Had to rest twice to figure the route out.

This is really excellent climbing. Suits me to a tea. Found a bomber RP2 in a slot roughly halfway up. Will lead next time when i bring a mat.

richardr - TR RP - Jul/08

top section is well worth it and i found a cheeky heal hook.
Dave Searle - Solo RP - 04/May/08

Clean after practice. Gear at half height can be bomber (if you can hang around to place it).. shame the arete is so frustratingly polished. A lead for summer.
