The route only became known as Strawberries the following weekend. When this shot was taken it was Peaches!

Good they changed it then yea Jon ! Peaches dont sound right somehow !!!

Peaches and Cream... who knows?
jon - 08/Feb/10
Note the 'new' road construction. The old one was deemed to close to rockfall danger. I blame Paul Williams and his crow-bar.

Why did he call it Strawberries Jon ? just curious !
mr mills - 08/Feb/10
Not only historical but a great pic!

I just remember the line being known by most people as Peaches (to go with Cream). I think everyone expected Ron to call it that - so he chose Strawberries instead. Best thing to do is ask Ron...

I was climbing with Jimmy Jewel that WE - but we hardly climbed at all - just sat at the top of Grim Wall and watched Ron taking huge falls! The following WE I did Zukator with Henry Folkard. As I pulled over the top there was a huge cheer... for a moment I thought the crowd on the road had been watching my struggle - then I realised I'd missed Ron's first ascent!

Thanks for that jon must have been good times! I`m sure If they saw you top out on Zukator they would have cheered you as well !
Last I saw Ron was way back in 1991 on aclimbing trip to El Chorro, happy days.

hello jon a good bit of history thank you

I was on Grim Wall with my sister and about 500 other climbers either the weekend or day before Ron climbed the route. We wondered why everyone wanted to do our route then Ron and John Redhead rolled up with the shabbiest ropes I'd ever seen which he repeatedly fell on. Was this before or after the pretend bolt incident?
philmorris - 09/Feb/10
The 'pretend bolt' incident was the day after the FA as far as I can remember. I don't remember too many climbers on the day this photo was taken...

Great bit of history Jon - cheers for that... if I had a wish, I'd go back to north wales in that classic period for a week... hang around in all the classic boozers and crags and rub shoulders with the rabble.
